Smart Party Hosts 'UndepenDANCE" Day

After looking at the world through martini, shot, highball and champagne glasses for twenty - two years, I decided enough was enough, and stopped drinking, in May 1987. Still sober, 23 years later, and lots to tell...so have decided to venture into the Land of Blog. Maybe some of my life lessons learned will help others in their recovery journey.
I'm the founder of the Smart Party. On Monday August 16, we're inviting the nation to join us in celebrating "UndepenDANCE Day. Here are the details.

“UndepenDANCE” Day is a national alcohol/drug –free event, celebrating healthy lifestyles, and all those who prefer to party and socialize sans the drunks, drugs and drama .It is sponsored by the Smart Party in NYC Without Alcohol, and its founder. Lynn Earley. Ms Earley is sober 23 years, and has been promoting partying without alcohol in the NJ/NYC metro area since 1991. One of the main goals of the Smart Party is to provide society with an exciting, creative, healthy alcohol-free social alternative to the current bar/club scene. There are three Smart Party groups currently Meetup.com: NYC, NJ and a recent spinoff: the College Age Smart Party
It will take place nationwide on August 16th with a viirtual Online Party: all day, and also a meeting at Bethesda Fountain/ Central Park, NYC (plus venues across the country)
Purpose is to raise public consciousness about the dangers of alcohol and drug abuse, and to bring to light the fact that alcohol-free social venues (especially for adults ) are almost non-existent. AA sober events are excluded, as they are for a closed fellowship

On August 16, 1977 Elvis Presley died due to a drug overdose. On August 16, 1991, my friend died , age 29 ,due to a severe alcohol addiction. . He committed suicide by jumping off the George Washington Bridge. He loved Elvis, resembled him, and used to make us laugh with is impersonations of the his favorite entertainer. This day will be a tribute to them, and to all whose lives have been affected by alcohol and drug abuse. It will also be to make the point that it IS possible to enjoy a fabulous without getting drunk, and/or using mind altering substances. ************************************************************************
